I received an Amazon gift card for Xmas and want to use it on a driving game for PS 4, but wanted to tap the Oppo brain trust.

Project Cars looks amazing, and seems like it is a true racing sim.

Drive Club seems like a little more arcade style play, which is OK - I grew up playing Need for Speed and some of my favorite games include Hot Pursuit (on my PC as a young man) and then Need for Speed Underground when I was in college.

Thoughts?

I’ve also been told by a friend once I start Rocket League I will not stop for several months. I would have started already and played with him but he is on a PC and I’m on my console.

Dirt Rally is still a little ways off but will be the best racing game on PS4 once it launches. I have PCARS on PC and have struggled to get into it.

I’ll be following this post. My fiancee has a PS4 and I just moved in with her (not just for the PS4). Last night I picked up Drive Club and spent a little too much time having fun with it. Even just using the regular controller I was able to “left foot brake” my Mini Cooper S through the turns somewhat realistically. It’s like a not quite as good version of Gran Turismo, which, in the absence of any version of Gran Turismo for the PS4, is still pretty darn good.

That is good to hear - based on your description Drive Club plays a little more realistically than I was expecting to hear. That is my sweet spot - not a full on driving sim but just enough real life physics and damage modeling to keep you honest.

That is an Xbox exclusive.

I’ve felt that Project Cars is a more realistic simulation of racing than Forza or Gran Turismo. Each car feels so unique and it’s clear a massive amount of time was spent modeling vehicle dynamics. That being said, it doesn’t really play like a traditional video game. There is a career mode but not much of any story line or reward for progressing. Also, as it is so realistic, it can be frustrating to play.

Yeah, I have it on PC and it’s the best racing game to come out in a while. As for PCARS I liked Assetto Corsa a lot better on the PC and I like Gran Turismo better on PS3. As for PS4 it might be your best option right now, aside from Dirt Rally in April that is.

I was pleasantly surprised that dabbing the brake while on the gas in a FWD car actually worked the way it should in real life. Damage appears limited to cosmetic effects, but if you have a really rough race it shows from the outside view at the end of it. I just unlocked the BMW M235i and am really enjoying power sliding it.

I’d go with Project Cars and F1 2015.
